Univ.Prof. Georg Schitter has received the Best Paper Award from the IFAC Journal Mechatronics for the years 2008-2010.
The prize has been awarded for the publication "Design and input-shaping control of a novel scanner for high-speed atomic force microscopy", which has been written in cooperation with Dr. Philipp Thurner, University of Southampton (UK), and Prof. Paul Hansma, UC Santa Barbara (USA), and describes the mechatronic design and compensation of the dynamics of a fast scanning unit for a video-rate atomic force microscope.
The prize has been given at the closing ceremony of the 18th IFAC World Congress, held in Milan from 29th August to 2nd September 2011.
